We are excited to announce the release of Botstopper, a powerful new traffic management and security feature now available on the Hypernode platform!
Botstopper protects your webshops from most malicious bots, aggressive scrapers, and abusive traffic, while ensuring that legitimate customers, verified search engines, and critical integrations experience zero disruption.
What is Botstopper?
Botstopper evaluates incoming requests against policy rules from top to bottom. For each request, it can take one of four actions:
- ALLOW: The request is sent straight to your shop.
- DENY: The request is blocked immediately with an HTTP
403status. - WEIGH: Based on rules, weights can be added to a bucket. The final weight determines if the request should be allowed or challenged.
- CHALLENGE: The visitor receives a browser challenge, which for most clients takes just a few milliseconds to solve, but makes sure that a browser is actually a browser.
Standard Hypernode Policies
Out of the box, Botstopper ships with a standard policy explicitly tailored to keep your e-commerce platform secure and performant:
- Hypernode platform services, payment providers, monitoring tools, and your WAF allowlist are allowed by default to prevent them from being denied access or receiving a challenge.
- Denies known bad bots, headless browsers, and suspicious HTTP clients while explicitly allowing verified search engine crawlers and common public files.
- Most importantly: sends challenges to high-risk networks or browser-like user agents.
- Many more policies to allow, deny or challenge traffic.
